Saaga Travel is expanding its operations into an incoming travel agency serving international tour operators and individual tourists. Johanna Salmela has been appointed Saaga Travel's Sales Manager responsible for international sales development as of February 1, 2021.
When we started our operations in 2019, our international sales immediately started to grow rapidly in the wake of the international tourism development in Lapland and Oulu regions. Promising growth came to a halt in March 2020 due to COVID-19.
At present, the backbone of our company's operations is contract traffic in the Oulu region. In addition, our services include charter hire and travel packages and online webshop. In winter season we operate the popular skibuses to Iso-Syöte and Ukkohalla ski resorts on Saturdays..
In the future, our vision is to be a leading tourism brand in Northern Finland, whose umbrella enables a wide range of tourism-related activities. That is why we are looking for strong growth in the international market. Our goal is to increase the share of international trade in our company’s revenue from the current 5 percent to 40 percent over the next four years.
Our strength is our solid foundation in passenger transport services, on which we begin to build our own high-quality and distinctive travel packages, especially for high-end small groups. To this end, we have recruited an experienced international tourism expert, Johanna Salmela , who will start developing our international operations. Johanna has a good starting point for the task, as she has most recently been responsible for marketing the Oulu travel region to international tour operators at VisitOulu.
