Afternoon program

Fishing whitefish with a bag net (1h)

For catching whitefish, Kukkola village has a special kind of fishing method which dates back to the 1500s. To be able to handle fish from piers build to the river, a fisherman needs a bag net with a 6-meter long handle. A good fisherman needs to know the resting places of the fish as well as have strength to fish for hours at a time. Try out your skills with a guide!

Whitefish grilling in the Timber Smoke Hut (1h)

Kukkola village is known for the way of grilling their whitefish. The fish is first put on a stick and then grilled on an open fire. The Timber Smoke Hut, one of the oldest buildings in the Kukkola cultural village, is from 1700s. During the grilling of the fish, you get to hear about the methods of preparing fish as well as the fishing culture in Kukkola. We also serve ‘tunnbröd’ (Swedish hard bread) and ‘sima’ (sweet sparkling brew spiced with lemon and brown sugar) with the fish. If whitefish is not available, grilling will be done with fresh salmon.

Village sauna with outdoor hot-tub (2-3 h)

Experience the tradition of Sauna evening in the spirit of Lapland. Lovely outdoor hottub close to the river. The relaxation room has a cozy fireplace and comfortable armchairs that you can sit in and relax between and after you have experienced the sauna.
